Ideal's Betsy Baby (Betsy Wetsy)

A mid-60s version of Betsy Wetsy, referred to as Betsy Baby.  This small 12" doll is sometimes referred to as Betsy Baby.  This 39 year old doll is an overall good, clean doll; very little play ware.  These dolls are somewhat hard to find as they were only made for one year.  From what I understand there were two sizes made, 11 1/2" (marked 12), and a 13" (not sure of mark).  This is the smaller 11 1/2" doll.  The back of her neck is marked:  ©1965/Ideal Doll Corp./TD12-W.Pat.Pend.  I found her in this cute little red dress (I added the hairbow) and it appears to fit her very well.  It is very possible that this is original to her, but because there isn't a lot of documentation on these dolls, I can't be 100% sure.

She is a drink/wet doll.  She has beautiful sleep eyes, very bright.  Her lashes are very long and thick.  Her overall facial coloring is very nice for her age.  Her hair is shiny, and is slightly shorter on the right side.  I added the red ribbon.

She has a squeaker in her side, that still works when you squeeze her tummy.  Body marked:  ©1965/IDEAL TOY CORP./TD-12/2

Very clean body.  No stains.  Vinyl is still soft.  Body is fully jointed.

(I notice in the photo that there is a small dark dot on the bottom of her right foot.  That was a bit of dirt that I have since removed.)

I believe the pat. pend. mark on her neck refers to a unique feature involving her eyes.  Her head tilts forward which allows her eyes to close more slowly than the typical sleep eye doll.  She was designed so that if her mommy fed her a bottle while cradling her, Betsy Baby could gently go to sleep.  Hard to show in still photos but this feature works well.   She would make a cute addition to your collection if you are a Betsy Wetsy or Ideal fan.
