Mattel's Rainbow Brite Shy Violet

A very popular character from the 80s, Rainbow Brite and friends were big sellers. This 18" doll was the standard size but because they were somewhat expensive, many mom's opted to buy their children the smaller 12" version, making the larger ones more desirable to collectors today. This is Rainbow Brite's good friend, Shy Violet (she is my favorite of the bunch). Unfortunately she has lost her original, removable dress. She is the only one that wore glasses (non-removable).    She is definitely a played with doll but overall is pretty clean and colors are bright.   I believe her ponytail has probably been cut at one time, but does still secure into a bun. Her lavender yarn hair has some loose strands and does definitely show wear. Her hair also has some faded strands giving her hair a "weaved" look. Still this is one of the harder to find friends and would be a cute addition to your collection, especially if you have her original outfit, or are handy at sewing so as to make her a new dress.

Her facial coloring is bright and clear but does show minor scuffs from play. The major area of problems is shown in the photo above and below, where there are some rubs on the white paint of her glasses rim.   It is possible that this could be touched up with paint but I will leave that up to new "mom".

BACK VIEW
There is some fading of the material on her clothing from age and play. Fabric stitching is nice and tight.   Overall this is a very nice example of a played with Rainbow Brite hard to find friend, and would make a nice addition to any collection, or would make a great friend for your own child.
