It is so enjoyable to get a peek into the past by looking at old photos.

CHILDHOOD DOLL PHOTOS - PAGE NINE

Here is sweet Barbara June giving Ideal's Shirley Temple a ride on her tricycle.  There was no date on the back of the photo but I would guess this is from the later 30s.  It is difficult to tell exactly which dress Shirley is wearing but it is very clear that she still has her logo pin secured to the bodice of her dress.

What little girl doesn't remember playing dress up in mommie's clothes.  Here is a darling group of girls, possibly sisters or cousins, all spruced up, ready for a day of shopping with their purses on their arms, and their babies in tow.  The only really identifiable doll in this group is the Ideal Toni standing in the foreground. Her outfit dates from 1954.

Bonnie is going out for a Sunday drive in 1947, with her favorite baby doll by Sun Rubber Doll Co.  She named it "Baby Sister" and took her everywhere.  Years later the doll "passed on" in the usual rotted rubber way when she was about 13 years old.  She said she cried for the whole week-end!

Bonnie sits waiting patiently with her Effanbee Dy-Dee baby (most likely Dy-Dee Jane) for her own real baby sister to arrive in 1949.

Christmas 1952.  Bonnie again, this time with her real little sister, each receiving a beautiful new Effanbee NOMA Electronic doll.

Watch those waves, Ricky Jr.!  Bonnie safely lets American Character's popular Ricky, Jr. (Lucy and Ricky's "son" from "I Love Lucy" show) get his toes wet as they vacation at the beach in 1954.

Here is Bonnie in 1957, with her last doll from Santa.  It is a beautiful Miss Revlon type fashion doll.  Might be Valentine, Belle, or Sayco.  Her sister has what appears to me to be an American Character's "Infant Toodles" in a christening dress.  These dolls were designed after the popular 1920s Bye-Lo Babies.

Perhaps you have a treasured photo of yourself, or a loved one, with a childhood doll,  that you would like to include on this page.  It could even be a photo of an unidentified child that you stumbled across in an antique mall, like some that I've included.  What is important is that there be a doll in the shot and it be somewhat vintage.   If you have a CLEAR photo that you would like to add to the page, email me to get instructions on sending it.
