Mattel's
"Baby Tender Love Dolls"

This was the first in a 1970s line of very popular baby dolls by Mattel called "Baby Tender Love". I found her at a thrift store with the bottle but I don't know if it is original to her or not. She has a one piece soft vinyl body so her arms and legs do not bend. She is wearing her original two piece outfit but is missing her matching pink booties. Several other Tender Love dolls were added to the line. A few are below. As I find more, I'll keep adding them to this page. |

This 12" baby is Baby Brother Tender Love. He is marked 1972 on the back of his neck. He has an all soft vinyl stuffed body with rooted blonde hair and painted brown eyes. The unique feature of this doll is that he is an anatomically correct male. I remember that this was quite a controversial feature back in the early 70s. This is a rarity in the doll world as very few dolls are made this way. |

There was an African American version (also anatomically correct) as well. My little guy has lost his shorts so I put some baby briefs on him. The Caucasian boy is wearing his original t-shirt and shorts. He came with his own bottle.

Mattel offered this 14" cutie in 1976. She is made very similar to Baby Tender Love, with a one piece soft body. Her unique feature is that she puckers her lips and gives you a big kiss when you squeeze her tummy. She is dressed originally. |

Talking Baby Tenderlove |

This is Talking Baby Tender Love wearing original, cute smiley face, p.j.s that could be purchased separately for her. Her talking mechanism is in her head. She is basically just like the regular basic Baby Tender Love except she has a large plastic bow on the back of her head with the pull string in the center. She says phrases such as, "Night, night mommy", "Mommy so pretty", "Uh-oh, all dirty", Mommy wash baby?", etc. |

Living Baby Tenderlove |

|
|
This 19" version of Mattel's popular Tender Love dolls,
called Living Baby Tender Love, is the largest of the line, and the only
one with jointed limbs. This allows her to sit alone, or lay down
to sleep. She is a drink/wet doll and is wearing her original
dress but has replaced booties. ©1970 on head, she was made for a
few years.
Because of the type of material used to make these dolls, many develop small pitted spots (resembling measles). This is very common. I've seen it mostly on this version and the original version (more than on the newborns). |
