Little girls of the early eighties were delighted by the sweet, fruity smells of Strawberry Shortcake dolls made by the Kenner Toy Company.  They were manufactured as play dolls based on a very popular line of greeting cards from the American Greetings Corporation.  The unique marketing approach for these dolls was that each one was made to emit a long lasting fragrance based on fruits, flowers, and candies.  This creative marketing tool worked, and before long their popularity prompted more and more friends.  Several new lines of merchandise were introduced including baby dolls, separate clothing, miniatures, and a two story house with loads of furniture.   In addition, actual children's bedding, furniture, games, and clothing with the logo, flooded the market.    Long forgotten in the bottom of toy boxes, these treasures are becoming quite collectible and will be for years to come.
