28" Deluxe Reading Darling Debbie

FOR SALE: 50s Deluxe Reading Darling Debbie
Large 28" vinyl one piece stuffed pose-able body.
Marked on the back of her neck:  251 A-E,
then the number 9 on torso.
Item Code D4-Z-DLXD     ~SOLD~

These large dolls were sold in grocery stores.  This one in blue was called Darling Debbie.  There were also Betty the Beautiful Bride and Sweet Rosemary dressed in pink.  Unfortunately Debbie has lost her shoes along the way and does not have any panties (don't know if she came with them).

Darling Debbie has beautiful facial coloring.  Her sleep eyes are a hazel color not the more common blue.  She wears a "pearl" choker necklace and button "pearl" earrings.  Her sandy blond saran hair is in a short bubble cut and there does not appear to be any missing hair plugs.
See description and additional photos below:

Stuffed vinyl body

High-heeled curved feet.

~*~*~*~

There is a mark in the vinyl  that I can't get off of the back of her arm.  This is actually on both arms.

~*~*~*~

Her necklace fastens by being pinned to the back of her neck.  It is tight and stationery.  The necklace and earrings are a coated plastic.  Some of the coating is wearing off of the jewelry.

~*~*~*~

She has a one piece body, jointed at neck.  She has a stuffed soft vinyl body that is stuffed to give her firmness.  There is a wire than runs through her limbs so that she can pose.  There are minimal wear marks on her heels and feet.  Some buckling of the vinyl which is typical of this type of doll construction.

~*~*~*~

Her vinyl is stronger than the magic skin type dolls.  She has no cracks or holes in the vinyl.  Because of the nature of this material she does not stand on her own.  She would require a large doll stand (not included).

~*~*~*~

I believe that these dolls came in either a flat foot or a curved high heel foot.  This doll has the curved foot but unfortunately does not have any shoes.  This is hidden under her long gown.

~*~*~*~

Dress may be a bit faded from time.  The tulle lace is a pale blue and the under dress is a lavender taffeta.

If this was your childhood doll (or you used to beg your mom for one each time you went to the grocery store and saw the beautiful display), or you just collect a variety of 50s dolls, she would make a great addition to your collection.  A real piece of nostalgic 50s!
