American Character Toodles Toddler  21"
Item # D-AC-TOODB    ~SOLD~

This is American Character's deluxe drink/wet doll called Toodles: The Action Doll.
This doll is also referred to as Toodles Toddler. These dolls were first marketed in 1955 and came in a few different sizes.  They were made in slight variations between 1955-59.  Because I did not find her in her original clothing, I'm not exactly sure which year she was made but because she has more regular sleep eyes with standard brush lashes, I believe she is from either 1955 or 1956.  She is wearing pink and white checked panties that I believe may be original to her (they will stay with her although they really don't go with this dress).  I have redressed her in this cute frilly baby dress and added a little hair bandeau.  She has no shoes.
She has extra joints at her elbows and knees allowing her to assume several poses.   Her baby legs are straighter than the traditional curved baby leg found on most baby dolls, but she can't really stand on her own.

Marked on back of head:  Amer. Char. Doll

She has nice facial coloring overall, soft blush and full painted lower lashes.  Eyes are a bright blue and brush lashes are thick as shown in close-up photo.  Her eyes are clear and a beautiful blue.  They are NOT the peek-a-boo eyes, nor the "flirty" side-to-side moving eyes that are seen on the later dolls.   The first dolls did not have that feature.  No paint rubs on her cheeks to speak of but there is some paint loss on her upper and lower lip (probably from her mommy giving her a bottle many years back (no bottle included)).

(doll stand for display only, not include)

Overall she has a very nice body with good even coloring and strong blush on elbows and knees.  Fingers and toes have no chew marks. Her hair is full, made of curly saran.  It is rare to find these brunette dolls, as most were a reddish blonde.  When I first found her she was a bit shelf dusty and her vinyl was a bit sticky (common on some of these older dolls).  I cleaned her up and gently rubbed a bit of baby powder on her and she feels soft and has an opalescent glow about her now.  A little dusting with baby powder from time to time should keep her that way.

BACK VIEW Nude
Shows water exit "wetting" hole and metal squeaker.
She makes a cry noise if you squeeze her tummy.

Looks like she has a birthmark on her "bum" that I was unable to remove.

There is an orange colored stain on the back of her forearm.

Is this the Toodles that you remember having as a child? She would love to come and live with you.  Or, this lovely brunette version would make a fine addition to any Toodles collection.  This large baby doll is quite realistically heavy (over 4 lbs.) so shipping might be significant depending on your location.
