Ideal 18" Miss Revlon Doll

[Dividing Line Image]

FOR SALE: Ideal's 1950's 18" Miss Revlon
made between 1956-59
Item Code #D-I-REV18   $135.00

A beautiful example of one of Ideal's popular fashion dolls of the late 50s.  This is the 18" version.  She is marked on the back of her neck Ideal Doll/VT-18 and each limb has the number 18 on it.  Her body is a hard vinyl and she is jointed at the neck, arms, legs, and waist.  She is wearing an untagged dress that I believe may be original, however, I cannot find documentation on this exact dress in my reference books.  It is a pretty soft blue organdy with an embossed flocked floral in creamy white.  Original flowers adorn the neckline.  Her panties are pink and look to be original.  The shoes have been replaced and are slightly two different shades of whiteOne of the shoe's toe fasteners has broken but I am able to fit it together for display.  Could probably be glued by new owner if a permanent solution is desired.  Her nail polish is present on fingers and toes.  There appears some over brushing but I do believe that this is original and some chipping, due to age.

She has beautiful creamy facial coloring.  Her eyes sparkle and all lashes are present.  There does not appear to be any blush to speak of but I believe this is how she was made.  There were about four slightly different faces for the 18" Miss Revlon, some with blush and some without.  Painted lashes and brows are strong

There is a tiny pin hole size dent in her forehead.  I'm guessing that her original mommy might have taken one of the earrings out and stuck her in the forehead.  It is very slight but is noticeable,  and wanted to mention it.

~*~*~

She no longer has her earrings in either ear and there is slight greenishness to ears where the metal used to meet the vinyl.  This is not uncommon and I've used a product to try to minimize this but haven't been able to completely remove it.

There is a row of hair plugs on this side without hair but I think that it may have been over stitched at the factory and there never was hair inserted because the hair that is rooted is very even.

~*~*~

Saran hair can be very coarse.  Hers has been gathered up into a ribbon into a curly ponytail.  Her new mommy may want to spend some time restyling it or working the curls into more ringlets.

~*~*~

One leg is slightly longer than the other which I have noticed is common among the Revlons because of how they were made at the factory.  It  isn't considered a defect but it makes it difficult for her to pose without a doll stand (not included).

Back  shows dress closes with two buttons.  At the top of the dress there is some fraying of the bias tape.

I had another 18" Miss Revlon that had this line mark on the inside of her leg (above) so it might be something that occurred due to the design.  Also there are some slight bluish marks that don't come off on the leg.   I have noticed that the vinyl used in the Ideal Revlon doll line is somewhat crude.  I have learned from a research book that some of the very early dolls had painted vinyl limbs and the paint wears and reveals an unevenness to the skin tone.  One of this dolls limbs is somewhat mottled (almost like cellulite).   I strongly suspect that this doll is one with the painted legs.

There are some small marks on her lower torso that appear in a line.  ???

The toes on one foot appear discolored.  That is why I think that this is one of the earlier dolls with the painted vinyl.

I know that I seem to be making her seem horrible and it is hard to describe some of these issues.   But, I just wanted to detail as much as possible.  The bottom line is this is not a perfect doll, and most of these problems are covered by clothing.  Still I try to be thorough.   I guess what I should be saying is; if you are looking for a mint doll, then she is not going to meet your expectations.  However, if you love the Miss Revlons and want an example of each size, she is a lovely doll and will display well (especially if you can find her some original nylon stockings with the seams down the back!).

Overall she is a very clean fabulous doll.  She would make a wonderful addition to any Miss Revlon or Ideal doll collection.   If I've left anything out that is important to you, please email me with any questions.
